The idea of the classic was set up through a long process that we can reconstruct and follow from the Homicical epic: catalogues, collection of works, foundation of libraries, formation of selective lists of authors by genre, process that extended in the Hellenistic era. The concept of the classic was born to qualify literary authors and from there its use extended from the Renaissance to the other fine arts.
