This book, *The Practice of the Clinical Interview: A Lacanian Perspective*, is a course on "Theory and Technique of the Psychological Interview" that Massimo Recalcati taught between 1999 and 2001 at the University of Urbino. This publication originated from a set of notes that circulated among his students until the author reviewed the transcripts, edited them, and published them in 2017 under the title *The Practice of the Clinical Colloquium: A Lacanian Perspective*, by Raffaello Cortina Editore. The approach taken in this course offers a valuable introduction to the field of the clinical interview. The first part of the book covers the elements that comprise the practice of the interview: the symptom, the demand, and transference. The second part addresses the problem of differential diagnosis: How does the subject's discourse appear linked to the underlying structure (neurosis, psychosis, perversion) upon which they depend? And what clinical criteria would allow for the most rigorous possible formulation of a diagnosis of the subject, and consequently, the most effective establishment of the direction of their treatment? Furthermore, the reader will notice a twofold approach in Recalcati's work, because on the one hand, this course consists of transmitting the method of approaching the Lacanian practice of the interview, but on the other, it seeks to offer a hinge to the essential contents of Lacan's teaching. This work, translated by the psychoanalyst Marcela González Barrientos, is the effort of a young Recalcati to discuss Jacques Lacan at the university outside of philosophy or the humanities, since his enunciation is rooted in the clinical field. It emphasizes the logic of the case-by-case approach, of singularity and the incomparable, as a counterpoint to any ideal model or standardized treatment.
