Charles Augustus Strong was, with his friend and correspondent George Santayana, one of the most active members called critical realism, philosophical current that swept the American university life in the first three decades of the twentieth century. In 1904, William James put his research at the height of Bergson, and attributed them both the same "hunter instinct for traces fruitful." Strong but work on the relationship between body and mind, the essence and the ontological status of knowledge, problems of space and time were not generally welcomed. They were accused, above all, lack of clarity and abuse of technical terms. Strong immediate reaction of this book of fables, written in 1921, which intends to say this is that in his books "serious", but in words they can understand those traveling by car or train.
As in traditional fables, most of the characters are animals, there are some other men and even objects, all God's creatures, from which Strong rethinks the problems from always afflicted, but this time from the vision that gives each one of those beings the way of life in which they are involved and their relationships inherent-essential-sensitive-historical.
An atomistic mole, a clumsy and intellectual cordera who read "the Germans", an egocentric and relativistic spin ... Beyond the implicit references, although marked, present several philosophical beasts muted, like James, Russell and Bergson, what matters is that in the fabulario Strong philosophy is again crossed by sensitive modes imposed by nature on its own deployment, especially in their free paths (such flight and especially the birdsong) before the pure knowledge copper your own flight and miss, without the beauty of that melody.
