Charles Augustus Strong was, with his friend and correspondent George Santayana, one of the most active members called critical realism, philosophical current that swept the American university life in the first three decades of the twentieth century. In 1904, William James put his research at the height of Bergson, and attributed them both the same "hunter instinct for traces fruitful."
