Medicating is a medical act where the drug becomes an instrument of the interdisciplinary team to work with the subjective condition. On the other hand, medicalization refers to the political, social and economic factors that intervene in the production, distribution and sale of the large medical and pharmacological technology industries. This is a term that has been used for many years to demonstrate the effects on medicine of capitalist globalization where the only thing that matters is profit. As Enrique Carpintero argues, "This has led to a medicalization of the field of Mental Health, where the predominance of a medical neopositivism aims to understand psychic illness exclusively as a neuronal problem. Its result has been the advance of a psychiatric counter-reform that is only interested in prescribing psychotropic drugs."
