This is a unique work by Juan Enrique Pestalozzi. Singular because it is not well known or cited among his works and, nevertheless, it is one of the most important and fundamental of them. It is his philosophical work. In it we find, by our author, his Anthropology, his Ethics, his Social Philosophy, his Philosophy of Education.
When he wrote it, Pestalozzi was not yet the pedagogue he later became; he was just a writer of the Age of Enlightenment, with good contributions to the thought of his time. But he already had a clear idea of ​​what the education of the people should be and of the methods with which it should be promoted.
The author wrote this book for three years, from 1793 to 1795, that is, after the vivid experience of the French Revolution. Precisely it is often said that it constitutes the deep reflection that this event provoked in our author, making him review all his ideological, social and political approaches. In this sense, it is a work of maturity and criticism, in which Pestalozzi, at fifty years of age, makes a kind of philosophy of history to explain himself and what humanity is and what it should be, what is destiny of the human race and, consequently, how its training and education should be oriented.
