Voices from the periphery have managed to reach the center of cultural discourse, but they face a dilemma: either they adopt the exotic and rebellious role expected of them, or they disguise their origins to gain social capital. Far from self-indulgence and victimhood, Noelia Ramírez addresses this feeling of not belonging and redefines social mobility as a journey from shame to pride, a journey in which new, more pluralistic and complex discourses and spaces are created. Through a personal experience of grief and a break with inherited mandates, the author reflects on the paradoxes of identity, the imposture of authenticity, and the desire for transformation on both the intimate and collective levels.
