Nowhere to go in the long exile journal Jonas Mekas undertaken in 1944 after fleeing his small town in Lithuania for political reasons. This trip includes extensive involuntary labor camps, refugee camps, forced displacement with uncertain fate and his landing in New York, where he settled and began his film industry.
The permanent nostalgia, the fragmentary style, insistent and lonely world record and the nature surrounding it are the first formulation of what later displayed in his Mekas diary films; hence the importance of nowhere to go lies not only in his testimonial or biographical nature, but also here a poetic depth of intimacy that characterized all his work is based.
