The poetry of C. P. Cavafy, definitely introduced in the contemporary canon, branched in countless ways and influences, has become essential to understand the poetry of the past century and think of the XXI century. border poetry, difficult to label, which transcends the mere boundaries of gender, lyricism, confession, and expands into a complex dramatic and coral fabric; a poetry that explores with an intense and unique, universal and intimate voice at a time, always contradictory, ambiguous human essence. This edition of the Complete Poetry of Cavafy, the care of Juan Manuel Macías (poet, Hellenist and translator, awarded in 2013 by the Greek Society of Translators of Literature), collect all the poems called "canon" cavafiano together the unpublished poems of the Alexandrian, including three poems in prose. As a finishing touch, it is also enriched with an afterword by Vicente Fernandez González (translator and scholar of remarkable work of Cavafy, National Translation Prize twice).

Constantine Cavafy Petrou (Alexandria, 1863-1933) was born into a prosperous Greek merchant family that would be ruined after the death of his father in 1870. He lived most of his life in Alexandria, complex and cosmopolitan city at that time, where an important Greek colony lived with other foreign colonies. Until his retirement in 1922, he worked for the British administration in Egypt, without actually get official status for having renounced British citizenship he had acquired his father. Not any book published in his lifetime, and his poems were spreading through local magazines or through small plaquettes that the poet was responsible for editing and distributed among a select number of friends and acquaintances or loose sheets. Within two years after his death he saw the light the first edition of their canonical poems, in Alexandria.
