Almost two decades after the neoliberal maelstrom of dispossession of territorial goods – social and common – began in Latin America, as well as the environmental, social and community deconstruction that triggers the current capitalist territorial project in the countryside and the city, it is appropriate to make a strategic pause to ask ourselves about the way in which we have understood the spatial praxis of the dominant classes in neoliberalism and, above all, the understanding we have of the way in which popular spatial praxis has resisted it. As a widespread historical phenomenon in Latin America – and the world – it has emerged in a true geopolitics between antagonistic social classes – no longer just between Crowns, States and armies – that expresses a historical moment of the correlation of forces between the dominant classes and the popular sectors. In this book, according to the free perspective of each of the authors, we delve deeper into the spatial practices and knowledge that energize this historical form of geopolitics. The new geopolitics that we propose to cultivate does not oppose knowledge to practice, nor the local to the global or differences to historical unity. The bet is political. We believe that this involves crucial aspects of the class struggle that until now have gone unnoticed by geopolitics or have been neglected or marginalized. We believe in the possibility of the historical emergence of a popular spatial praxis capable of emancipating itself by giving itself its own form and meaning, as well as, during the struggle, of giving a truly common form and meaning to historical space.
