In his favorite pastime, the law is omnipresent due to the endless number of litigation, which is more rocambolesco, which tally its pages (in particular, and in a central way, the demand for plagiarism that Oscar Crease, a university professor, interposes a Producer of cinema), but we would not know if in this plot of scams, farces and interests there is the slightest hint of justice. Thus, it is not surprising that Gaddis's vision of the American legal system is as hilarious as disenchanted. His favorite pastime is an ingenious satire, a polyphonic vaudeville that takes great advantage of Gaddis's uncontested talent for dialogue. This is a novel of the first order, comparable to achievements as great as The Recognitions or the already mentioned Jota Erre, a text as brilliant as enjoyable, deserves to be (re) discovered and celebrated, with all honors, by the readership in Spanish language.
