In the modern imagination, the word "tantra" almost automatically refers to sex and, specifically, to good sex. Paradoxically, when today we use formulas such as "tantric sex", "sacred sexuality" and the like, the testimony of the tantric scriptures themselves is often conspicuous by its absence. What do these sources say about sex and what place did it occupy in their doctrines and practices? What is the history of the tantric view of sexuality and what were its motivations and symbols? Does that view justify the modern representation of "tantric sex"? To answer these and other questions, this anthology brings together the testimony of nearly twenty works written between the 7th and 15th centuries. Translated for the first time from Sanskrit into Spanish, the selected texts introduce us to a fascinating ritual, symbolic and contemplative universe in which sex made sense as a powerful mechanism of transgression and transformation.
