Fieldwork in Latin America. Regional anthropological experiences in ethnography meet an urgent need: to recognize and dialogue the relentless and unlaudable work of Latin American anthropologists as field researchers. Rosana Guber (Argentina), Cornelia Eckert (Brazil), Myriam Jimeno (Colombia) and Esteban Krotz (Mexico) gathered 37 authors and 30 articles, some unpublished, others already published, reflecting on the place of ethnographic experiences in knowledge production on and from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. These reflections are grouped into six sections, focused on the early systematic reflections of great doers of professional anthropology on the continent, the articulation of fieldwork with ethnography, the person of the researcher, reflexivity, teaching experience, fieldwork in cities, methodological alternatives in applied projects, consultancies and critical junctures, and how to think and do ethnography in situations of danger to researchers and their partners in the field and at the academy. The work concludes with an annex of Latin American bibliographic references on fieldwork and ethnography. A special site is intended for colleagues who, with their texts and trajectories, collaborated decisively in the realization, dissemination and institutionalization of anthropologies in Latin America. In his projects and in his accomplishments, fieldwork always had a key and prominent place. Fieldwork in Latin America speaks with many voices, from the pluralism of biases, interests and stories, from the commitment demanded by direct gaze, confident speech, open hand, and also from fear and suspicion, retaceo, smooth and plain lie, and disappointment. This compilation is just a small example of the great experience that Latin American anthropologists have forged while there, with dangers and achievements, with steep and sometimes truncated work, seeking to produce a more genuine knowledge that merges into the irreplaceable presence of researchers and interlocutors in what we know, teach and write as "fieldwork".
