This compilation of texts is in addition to the discussions currently taking place on the trans (transgender, transgender) issue and, in particular, on its presence in the field of education.

It is a fact that the school continues to contribute to turning sexual and gender diversity into inequality. Trans people pose a challenge to gender norms that prevail in schools (as in the rest of society) by embodying an unexpected breakdown of the impassable barriers that separate the population from childhood into two sexual categories, men and women, perfectly differentiated and hierarchical. When this rupture takes place in school, it triggers situations of violence and bullying of a transphobic nature, which, although they may seem insignificant in the quantitative (affect a minority), qualitatively are not: neither because of the individual suffering they generate nor by the exclusionary social regulation to which they obey. The reflection on the trans experience in the educational framework is, in fact, strategic because it allows to reveal and analyze the functioning of a series of disciplinary mechanisms around gender that affect the entire educational community and that most of the time remain invisibilized.

This book is the result of a theoretical-practical commitment of clear public vocation. On the one hand, it includes a set of disciplinary analyses that theoretically address issues as diverse as the processes of acquisition of gender identity in childhood and adolescence, its pathologization in the case of trans identities, the different dimensions of transphobia or the commitment to the inclusion of affective-sexual and gender diversity in school. On the other hand, it seeks to provide practical tools and disseminate a knowledge that is useful for the social agents involved in the transformation of the educational system. All this from a multidisciplinary perspective that includes approaches as diverse as those of social anthropology, sociology, psychology, biomedicine, LGBTQ activism, social work or the sciences of education.
