Una historia verdadera (‘A True History’) brings together the Alterhistory project (created by artist David Trullo) and the Visible Collection (developed by Pablo Peinado from the Visible Cultural Association). Here are men and women who decided to have their portrait taken at some point in their lives. But we know nothing about them: were they friends, lovers, partners? We do know that in the 19th Century (and, of course, before) there were gay and lesbian couples that for a number of reasons never had a photograph taken together. Trullo’s works in Alterhistory are manipulated images from that period, where gay couples even get married. Both projects merge to recreate reality. Una historia verdadera aims to break down the barriers between reality and fiction. In Spain we have very few real and documented images of samesex couples, but that does not stop us from telling it like it is.
