For thirty-five years, Hanta has been working on a paper shredder destroying books and reproductions of paintings. In each of the paper bullets he prepares books, lithographs, imprisoned mice and his own effort coexist. But for him, those books are much more than newsprint: they are tons of knowing that humanity has accumulated over the centuries and that Hanta has been acquiring with his work. While wandering around Prague, he reviews his life while reflecting on the teachings of the great masters: Lao Tzu, Nietzsche, Hegel or Kant. With the wonderful prose that characterizes him, Bohumil Hrabal builds in A Solitude too noisy, written when his work was banned by the communist regime, a fable about the meaning of artistic and literary creation, about love and loneliness, creation and destruction or the cruelty of time that also reaches Hanta, which some young workers, exemplary people with new methods of work, end up replacing.
