I born into a Jewish family escape the pogroms of Eastern Europe, Jean Comaroff studied anthropology at the University of Cape Town, where he received his degree in 1966, before doing a PhD at the London School of Economics in 1974 professor of Anthropology and of Social Sciences at the University of Chicago and honorary Professor of Anthropology at the University of Cape Town, Jean Comaroff has specialized in the effects of colonialism on the South African population. He has written extensively on colonialism, liberation struggles and problems of modernity. He is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Public Culture.
