Frederick Hadland Davis was one of the leading English scholars of culture and philosophy of the Far East. He wrote numerous works related to the history and folklore of Japan and China as the immortal ninth and Other Tales of China and Japan (1931) and Japan: Age of Gods to the fall of Tsingtao (1916). It was also expert in Orientalism and Persian mystics, especially Rumi and Jami to which he dedicated paths works. 32 original etchings by the English illustrator Evelyn Paul that were specifically made to accompany the original edition of the work of 1913 are included in this edition.
