Jimmie Durham was born in 1940 in the United States. For a long time he was a member of the American Indian Movement and founder and director of the International Indian Treaty Council of the UN; He has been active as a writer, editor and activist in various artistic initiatives internationally. His works presented at Documenta IX and the Whitney Biennial had worldwide recognition. In 1998, Durham was a fellow of the DAAD (Deutscher AKADE-mischer Austausch Dienst) in Berlin.
