Roman Gubern (Barcelona, 1934) has worked as a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been Professor of Film History at the University of Southern California, the California Institute of Technology, the Venice International University and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, between other academic centers. He has published more than forty books, including fiction masks (Anagram, 2002), where he analyzed the mythical figure of Carmen, Prosper Merimee. In addition to his audiovisual research, he has been induced by having in his lineage one great-grandparent of that ethnic film and television writer and scholar of gypsy and flamenco culture, interest.
