Roland, a young student, is about to drop out of school when his father decides to send him to the university in a small provincial town. There, a brilliant teacher awakens in him a new passion: the love of knowledge. Dazzled, the young man approaches the teacher and proposes to help him to complete the great work of his life. The teacher accepts the offer, but rarely expresses the gratitude that the disciple craves and sometimes even treats him with a distance that torments him.
