Dedicated to King James I of England, Macbeth is, in the words of A. W. Schlegel, the most vigorous work of Shakespeare: "Tragic poetry had produced nothing grander or more terrible."
Written in prose and verse about 1606, Macbeth delves into the legitimacy of power, human ambition and the designs of fate, in one of the most lucid tragedies that the English playwright has bequeathed to the history of literature.
The present edition, illustrated by the Italian master Ferenc Pintér, has the remarkable translation of Ángel-Luis Pujante and a luminous prologue by Jorge Luis Borges.
