The experience of the unthinkable through which the survivors of the extermination camps passed raises the question of the duty of memory. This is what Theodor W. Adorno formulated as a new categorical imperative: that men orient "their thought and action so that Auschwitz does not repeat itself". Memory means assuming the authority of the real event that takes the subject by assault, trastrocando despite his cognitive ability, autonomy and initiative and forcing him to face what he has to think. But this "epistemic turn" has not taken place: history has followed its way as if nothing had happened. For the greatest resistance to this change of orientation is the time that runs and is substantiated in progress, in a seamless continuum in which evil is subsumed without rest. To take seriously the duty of memory implies, on the contrary, a conception of time that opens a gap in linear time "through which the Messiah could come". Thus, the two poles of the ellipse that runs through this book are the time of the Internet, which wants nothing to know about the past, because it creates the illusion of immortality, and biblical time, which does know the past, since it faces the question of the evil and suffering. By questioning the tyranny of the Gnostic time of progress, this other apocalyptic time brings us back to the origin that set time in motion.
