The horse appeared for the first time in 1958 in the magazine of Maurice Nadeau Les lettres nouvelles and appeared again last year in France, in an edition that, thanks to the postface of Mireille Calle-Gruber (specialist and biographer of the author), can be considered as a true "writing lesson". Indeed, this story that precedes that great book that is The Flanders Route is a condensate of the experimental practice of Claude Simon. The work with his collection of manuscripts - of a wealth hardly equalible - that this edition makes accessible, allows to understand in a deeper way the construction mechanisms of the story, as well as the gestation of the poetic foundations of the author: the montage or the art of composition, between music and rhetoric, of its "arrangements, permutations, combinations".
