Modern society is never "one", but always infinite and multiple, because it enables the coexistence of different simultaneous communications, from an irreducible diversity of systemic codes. Thus, modern society cannot identify with the society of merchants, nor with that of politicians, poets' society or scientists' society. There are so many worlds in it as there are languages and modes of communication. And every time any two subjectivities are freed from the indifference of the world and are intertwined by loving language, a "lovers' society" emerges in society. That's how new worlds proliferate.
