On 5 April 1768 Johann Friedrich Struensee was hired as a chamber physician to the Danish king Christian VII; four years later he was executed. Between the two events is one of the most fascinating stories of 18th-century Europe, in which a German doctor becomes a valid of a demented king and manages to introduce a series of progressive reforms to offer more freedom to the people at the dawn of the Enlightenment; a political project that infuriates the nobles, fearful of relinquishing their power, while they witness scandalized the influence of Struensee, "the silent", on the monarch and the young queen, with which he begins a passionate and tragic relationship.
