Jaroslav Pelikan was Professor Emeritus of History at Yale University, recipient of the W. Kluge Prize for a lifetime dedicated to the human sciences, and former president of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Among his numerous works are the five volumes of The Christian Tradition: A History of the Development of Doctrine, Jesus Through the Centuries, and Mary Through the Centuries.
