David Constantine

David Constantine (Salford, England, 1944) is a renowned narrator, poet and translator. He has been a professor of German language and literature at various English universities, mainly at Oxford, for thirty years. He is the translator of authors such as Hölderlin, Brecht, Goethe, Kleist, Michaux and Jaccottet and has been poetry editor for the Carcanet Press publishing house and jury for the T. S. Eliot Prize. He has published novels, poetry, essays and four books of short stories for which he has received important recognition, such as the Frank O'Connor International Award and the BBC National Short Story Award. In another country (2015; Libros del Asteroid, 2020) he brings together his best stories, the first of which gives its name to the book and was adapted to film under the title 45 years. He currently lives in Oxford, where until 2012 he was the editor, along with his wife, of the prestigious magazine Modern Poetry in Translation.
