Juan Manuel Torres Sáenz

He was born in Minatitlán, Veracruz, on April 5, 1938 and died in Mexico City on March 17, 1980. Narrator, translator and screenwriter. He studied Psychology at the FFyL of the UNAM (1959-1962) and film direction at the Leon Schiller National School of Film, Television and Theater in Lodz, Poland (1962-1968). Author of the book of short stories El viaje (1969) and the novel Didascalias (1970). He collaborated in Cuadernos del Viento, Nuevo Cine, Revista Mexicana de Literatura, Revista de la Universidad de México, La Palabra y el Hombre and S.Nob. He translated Bruno Schulz and Witold Gombrowicz from Polish. Among his films are The Other Virginity, Life Changes, The Sea and The Perfect Woman, all with scripts of his authorship. He won the Golden Ariel for Best Picture and the Silver Ariel for Best Director for The Other Virginity in 1975.
