Rosa Esther López García

Rosa Esther López García. is a Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), and a Senior Researcher at IMDEA Food. She is an epidemiologist, with expertise in the analyses of cohort studies.

She has been IP of 5 competing projects, funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, with continuous funding for research. In addition, she has published more than 200 scientific papers, derived from those projects, in the field of lifestyles in relation to cardiovascular disease and aging. In particular, she has characterized dietary exposures related to the development of physical impairment, hearing loss, risk of recurrent falling, and risk of frailty and multimorbidity. She has also examined the biological mechanisms that explain these associations, with a focus on the metabolomic profiles. This work is done with cohort studies from the USA, United Kingdom, and Spain, and has served to train new researchers in the field of nutritional epidemiology. She is a member of the Group AGE_path at the UAM.

Dr Lopez-Garcia has served as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. This work has allowed her to participate in the development of the National Spanish Dietary Guidelines 2022, in the role of Chairman (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7715009). Starting in March 2023, she is the President of the Observatorio de la Nutrición y de Estudio de la Obesidad (NAOS), She is also coordinator of the Nutrition Group from the Spanish Society of Epidemiology, and a member of the American Society of Nutrition, serving as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Dr Lopez-Garcia teaches courses of Epidemiology and Public Health in the grades of Medicine, Nursing, and Nutrition; and Nutritional Epidemiology in the Master of Epidemiology at the UAM and Master of Public Health at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
