Andrea Chapela

Andrea Chapela. Mexican writer, translator and teacher. She studied Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México unam and Creative Writing in Spanish at the University of Iowa.

She is the author of four books. Her work has been published in Literal Magazine, InTranslation, Samovar, Iowa Literaria, Penumbria, Hiedra Magazine and Tierra Adentro. She was a grant holder of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts fonca 2016 and resident artist at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, Spain 2017-2018. She won the 2018 Gilberto Owen National Prize for Literature in the short story category.

She translated for TranslationPal and taught Spanish at the University of Iowa and Coe College.
