Appian (Greek Αππιανός,.... Alexandria, Egypt, c AD 95 - c 165 AD) was a Roman historian. Born in Alexandria, he held senior positions as an officer in Egypt during the reign of Antoninus Pius mid-second century. C., so had access to imperial documents. Performs various administrative posts in Alexandria, then be lawyer, as was Cicero, and eventually as Emperor Antoninus Pius attorney.
He wrote a history of Rome in 24 books, ranging from its foundation to the death of Trajan.
Among them, he wrote the history of Iberia with an ethnographic character. In his book the Celtiberian Wars and narrated Numancia conquest.
Its main source is Polybius supplying many lost parts of it, but also takes data from Sallust, Paulo Clodius, Posidonius, Livio, Caelius Antipater, Jerome of Cardia, Julius Caesar, Augustus, Asinius Pollio, Plutarch, Diodorus and others.
