Cardinal Avery Dulles (New York, 1918) is recognized as the dean of U.S. Catholic theologians. He is often described as the "prince of concord," for his efforts to reconcile opposing theological trends. He is Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University and has been president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and the American Theological Society. It is also an advisor to the doctrinal committee of the Episcopal Conference of the United States is the author of numerous books, including The New World of Faith (2000), The Splendor of Faith: The Theological Vision of Pope John Paul II (1999), The Theology of the Church: a Bibliography (1999), The Priestly Office (1997) and a testimonial to Grace and Reflections on a Theological Journey (1996).
