Daniel Heller-Roazen Toronto, Canada, 1974
Born in Toronto, Canada, Daniel Heller-Roazen studied philosophy at the University of Toronto, and then moved to Johns Hopkins with the intention of engaging in German literature. However, after obtaining a master's degree in German studies decided to tackle medieval studies and, in particular, the relationship between poetry and philosophy in the Middle Ages. In 2000 he earned a doctorate in comparative literature at Johns Hopkins University, and then served as a professor at Princeton. Heller-Roazen is fluent in nine languages in addition to English: Old Provençal, Biblical Hebrew, Classical Arabic, Italian (translated three works of Giorgio Agamben), French, Yiddish, German, ancient Greek and Latin. Recognized worldwide as a specialist in medieval studies and in contemporary critical theory, knowledge of several languages has allowed him to explore the problems of transmission and translation of philosophical texts.
