Daniel Snowman was born in London and studied at Cambridge and Cornell. He has taught at the University of Sussex and has worked for the BBC, where he has been responsible for a large number of radio series on cultural and historical topics. Long-time member of the London Philharmonic Choir, currently is Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London.
