Emilio Carballido Fentanes

He was born on May 22, 1925, in the city of Córdoba, Veracruz. He died in February 2008. She studied English Literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with a specialty in dramatic art. He received a fellowship to specialize in histrionic art from the Rockefeller Institute in 1950.

From 1948 he dedicated himself to dramatic creation, achieving classic works for contemporary theater. His pieces have been performed in several countries in America and Europe, including the United States. His dramatic works have been translated into several languages (English, French, Italian, Norwegian, Czechoslovakian, Romanian).

His theatrical successes were recognized nationally and internationally. He is considered mainly as a playwright. However, he successfully dedicated himself to the exercise of narrative as well as to the production of plots for ballets, opera librettos and film scripts, he was characterized by the use of clear, direct language and a plot that combined humor, irony and drama.

He was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Veracruz in 1992. He received the "Ollantay" prize from Caracas in 1983, for his theater revue Tramoya, the best publication of its kind. He also received awards from the newspaper El Nacional in 1954; the "Juan Ruíz de Alarcón" prize in 1968. In 1962 he won the "Casa de las Américas" prize in Havana, Cuba.
