The Scotsman George MacDonald (1824-1905) is considered by his friend Lewis Carroll's most important stories for children Victorian writer. He wrote dozens of novels (like Phantastes and Lilith) and numerous poems, but his greatest work is in their fairy tales.
Influenced by Novalis, his stories combine ancient mystical background dotted with modern, paradoxes and absurdities, near Carroll games. Although his subjects are traditional fantasy, stories off a deeply experimental and subversive spirit.
