Georges Schehadé. Alexandria, Egypt, 1905 – Paris, France, 1989. He was a prestigious Lebanese poet and playwright who wrote in the French language. Discovered by Saint John Perse, Schehadé published his first poetic works in Commerce magazine from 1930 onwards. Around those years he fraternized with poets such as Jacob, Eluard, Breton, Supervielle, Char, and the Mexican Octavio Paz, who was a translator of several texts by Schehadé. Other of his translators into Spanish were the Venezuelan Alfredo Silva Estrada and the Argentine Rodolfo Alonso, who worked for several years as a correspondent for the magazine POESIA. Georges Schehadé won several awards for his literary work, including the Grand Prix de la Francophonie, which was awarded to him in 1986 by the French Academy.
