Giovanni Arrighi

Giovanni Arrighi (1937-2009), an Italian economist and sociologist specializing in political economy, is considered one of the greatest representatives of the theories of economic cycles. Doctorate in Economics from the University of Milan, he was Professor of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. Among his publications are the books published in Akal Editions Anti-Systemic Movements (with Immanuel M. Wallerstein and Terence K. Hopkins, 1999), The Long Twentieth Century (1999), Chaos and Order in the Modern World-System (with Beverly J. Silver , 2001) and Adam Smith in Beijing. Origins and foundations of the 21st century (2007).
