Ivan Tolstoy was born in Leningrad in 1958. A relative of Leo Tolstoy and grandson of the novelist Aleksei Tolstoy, after his studies of Russian Literature he taught at various universities in his country, both public and private. He is the author of the Russian Writers in Exile bibliographic dictionary and has worked at Radio Liberty for twenty years. He currently lives between Prague and Moscow.
