Born in 1939 in Reims, is professor of ethnology and anthropology at the Paris V-René Descartes University and a specialist in economic history, anthropology and material culture of Africa, where he has conducted field studies for several years. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and at universities in Nigeria and Cameroon and has authored numerous publications on his specialty.
