John D. MacDonald

John Dann MacDonald (24 July 1916 - 28 December 1986) was an American writer and novelist. MacDonald was a prolific author of suspense and crime novels, many of them set in Florida, United States. His most recognizable works include Detective Travis McGee's series and his novel The Executioners, which was adapted to the film twice in the films Cape of Miedo in 1962 and 1991. In 1980 it gained the National Prize of the Book in the category of mystery. Stephen King referred to MacDonald as "the great entertainer of our time and a great storyteller."
