Kirsten Thorup (Fionia, Denmark, 1942) is the daughter of a bookseller and grew up on the island of Funen. Much of his childhood experiences in the field serve as the setting for his works. She was the first of her family to attend university, where she studied English Philology and Literature. After finishing his studies in 1961, he settled in England. Since his return he lives in Copenhagen. He has published poetry, plays, story collections and several novels, among which include Baby (1973), Den lange sommer (1979), Himmel og helvede (1982, which was taken to the cinema), Bonsai (2000) or Ingenmandsland (2003). Thorup has received important prizes and distinctions, such as the Otto Gelsted Prize in 1974, the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 1987 and the Grand Prize of the Nordic Literature Council in the year 2000. His work has been translated into many languages, but remained unpublished in Castilian .
