Kory Stamper. Colorado (USA). Lexicographer and editor of the Merriam-Webster family of dictionaries. Stamper grew up in Colorado and attended Smith College, where she pursued an interdisciplinary major that included studying Latin, Greek, Norse, and Old English, after enrolling in a course on Icelandic family sagas of the 13th and 14th centuries. Stamper worked in a university development office before applying for an editorial assistant position at Merriam-Webster in 1998. In addition to his editorial duties, he hosts many of Merriam-Webster's “Ask the Editor” videos, a series that is You can watch on the publisher's website and YouTube and discuss issues related to the English language, especially unusual or controversial words and uses. Ella stamper speaks on behalf of Merriam-Webster and provides expert advice and answers to the public regarding general questions about language and lexicography. To cite one example, Stamper gained some prominence as the associate editor responsible for explaining the addition of the term "F-Bomb" in the dictionary. In addition to being the author of Word for Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries (2017), she regularly publishes articles in the field of lexicography and language in numerous media such as the Chicago Tribune or The Guardian, and has also written on other topics not related to language. Married and the mother of two, she currently lives in Collingswood, New Jersey.
