Lyonel Trouillot was born in 1956 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he still lives today. Novelist, poet and committed intellectual, he is one of the most prominent representatives of French-speaking world literature, as well as a journalist and professor of French and Creole literature at the University of Port-au-Prince. His work includes the novels Rue des pas-perdus, Thérèse en mille morceaux, Les Enfants des héros, Bicentenaire, L'Amour avant que j'oublie, Yanvalou pour Charlie (Wepler Prize 2009) and The Beautiful Human Love (Grand Prix du Roman Métis 2011, Prix du Salon du livre de Genève 2012 and Prix Gitanjali 2012), the poetry collection Éloge de la contemplation and the non-fiction works Haïti, le dur devoir d'exister and Objectif: l'autre. In 2010 he was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
