Marcela Lagarde y de los Ríos

Ethnologist at the National School of Anthropology and History and PhD in anthropology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, she is one of the most recognized feminist thinkers in Mexico. He has participated in the creation of various academic institutions and journals of Ibero-American studies, and has been a teacher in numerous universities in Mexico, Latin America and Spain. Between 2012 and 2014 she was a member of the UN Women Civil Advisory Council. She is a prolific author of specialized articles and for the general public. As a federal deputy in the LIX Legislature (2003-2006), she created and chaired the Special Commission of Femicide of the Chamber of Deputies, from which she promoted the General Law of Access of Women to a Life Free of Violence, as well as the criminalization of the crime of femicide; she was also a deputy in the Constituent Assembly of Mexico City (2016-2017). For his academic work and his political work he has deserved distinctions in Mexico and abroad, such as the Medal of University Merit Belisario Domínguez of the UNAM (1988), the Elvia Carrillo Puerto Recognition of the Senate of the Republic (2014), the International Prize Luisa de Medrano (2016), the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Medal of the Chamber of Deputies (2021) and the honorary doctorate for the University of the Republic
