Matías Aires (1705–1763) was a Brazilian writer and moral philosopher, widely considered the most important Portuguese-language thinker of the 18th century. Born in São Paulo, he moved to Portugal at a young age, where he combined a distinguished career in public administration with a deeply introspective and skeptical literary output.
