Raymond Depardon

Raymond Depardon

Raymond Depardon (Villefranche-sur-Saône, France, 1942) became internationally known as a photographer, reporting on political and social events around the world: Algeria, Beirut, Vietnam, South Africa, USA, etc. He worked first at the Dalmas agency, later founded the Gamma agency - in which he fights for the photographer's property rights, their autonomy and responsibility - and, in 1979, became part of the famous Magnum agency. His political and visual commitment leads him to cross the borders of photography to shoot films (Flagrant Crimes, San Clemente, Emergencies, among many others) and edit books combining the text with his own images. In this book, Political Images, Depardon traces a path of all his work, presenting his most important photographs and taking photojournalism to the very border with art.
