René Torres-Ruiz

René Torres-Ruiz. Doctor and master in Political Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Graduate in Political Science and Public Administration from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Full-time professor-researcher in the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the Universidad Iberoamericana (Ibero).

Member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Conahcyt, Level II. Regular Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.

His main research interests are in Mexico and Latin America and deal with the following topics: “Political life in Mexico”; “democracy and citizenship”; “social actors and movements”; “political change and participation”; and “democracy, political parties and electoral system.” He has participated in more than 80 national and international conferences and forums as a speaker and lecturer.

He has twice been coordinator of the Bachelor's Program in Political Science and Public Administration of the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. Currently, he serves as Executive Secretary of the Editorial Committee of the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the Universidad Iberoamericana.

He is a professor at the Center for Political Studies at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico since 2010.

He was a Local Electoral Councilor in Mexico City at the National Electoral Institute, for the period 2017-2021. In 2020 and early 2021 he was a Member of the Technical Selection Committee of the Institute for Democratic and Prospective Planning of Mexico City.

He is and has been an active member of the following associations:
