Samuel Selvon (San Fernando, 1923 – Port of Spain, 1994) is one of the most renowned writers from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as one of the pioneers in bringing literature closer to the linguistic reality of its inhabitants. He is considered the father of British black literature and the great innovator of Antillean literature. After leaving Trinidad, Selvon settles in England in the fifties. Alone in London corresponds to this time. After his period in the United Kingdom, where he remained until the 1970s, Selvon moved to Canada and worked at the universities of Victoria and Calgary. His works include: Alone in London, Moses Ascending and A Brighter Sun.
