He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Buenos Aires and a PhD in Hispanic Literature from the University of California-Berkeley. His area of expertise is the Hispanic American 19th century. He has been a fellow of the Social Science Research Council and the Library of Congress of the United States, and has published articles in academic journals from Latin America, Spain, the United States and Great Britain. He currently works as a researcher and professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
